This past weekend at the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Championships at Moorpark High School, sophomore Allura Markow won the 3200m in a time of 11:06.57, finishing nearly 5 seconds clear of the second place finisher.
After a conservative first mile which saw all 9 competitors together, Markow took control in laps 5 and 6, making a strong move to gap the field. On a hot, dry, and windy day, her bold move proved decisive and she held on over the final 800m for a convincing victory.
It marks her first CIF Championship victory, and the first 3200m individual champion in team history.
